All of these have stories told about them in the present day, although it's improbable that anyone alive can really sort out the fact from the fiction. The extensive history that author Robert Jordan created for The Wheel of Time involves many heroes from the Age of Legends, with epic names like Artur Hawkwing and Hend the Striker.

She won't tell him her name, but in the credits, it's Helga, and in the subtitles, Else (the latter is the name of a character from the first book in the series, but she otherwise has very little in common with her screen counterpart). While Mat is alone and suffering from symptoms that may mean he's a channeler, the youngest Grinwell comes to bring him a loaf of bread from her mother. One of the victims of this attack is a young girl, around the same age as Mat's beloved little sisters, and her conversation with him earlier in the episode not only made her death more painful but illuminated a key piece of lore from the books that the show is based on.

One of the most heartbreaking scenes to occur so far in The Wheel of Time involves Myrddraal's slaughter of the Grinwell family, who allow Mat, Rand and their new companion Thom Merrilin to shelter for the night at their farm.
